A Message from our Head of School

Welcome to the Jewish Day School of the Lehigh Valley, warmly known as the JDS.  As a true community Jewish day school, we serve and reflect the entire Lehigh Valley Jewish community. Every family is celebrated and respected. Our variety of backgrounds and traditions lends itself to a united mission to deepen and expand our Jewish learning, excel in our General Studies, and come together for holidays, lifecycle milestones, and the joy we share every day.

We believe in nurturing the whole child, which can be observed immediately when you see our students working and learning in our classes and watch our talented faculty differentiating the educational experience to meet our students’ needs. We take pride in providing a program that works in partnership with our teachers, parents, and students. We have built an extraordinary learning environment that focuses on the development of the child academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually, contributing to the education of students who are critical and analytical independent thinkers and lifelong learners.

As soon as you walk into our building you will sense the inspiration and engagement of our students that have been the hallmark of the JDS for 70 years. I know I felt this way when I began my journey here in 1997. I am honored and excited to use my experience as a teacher and as the Director of Hebrew and Judaics to ensure that I am moving the school, our students, families, and staff forward and upwards in my role as Interim Head of School. Please come by anytime for a tour and a chat. Feel free to reach out to me with any thoughts or questions at jpowers@jdslv.org

B’ahava,
Morah Joanna

Where We Stand Out

1.png

Small Class Sizes

By having small class sizes and grouping students by abilities, we provide individualized attention so that no child slips through the cracks. Students are engaged, challenged and never bored. Small class sizes also help students build confidence, problem solve and develop a passion and excitement for learning.

Individualized Learning

We believe one size does not fit all. Our teachers are regularly monitoring student performance to identify and highlight individual strengths and areas of improvement. Our individualized programs promote an encouraging, compassionate learning environment, enthusiasm, and an eagerness to learn.

Holistic Educational Approach

Our experiential curriculum and individualized approach to education create a strong sense of self and community where character development and civic responsibility are as important to our education as the textbooks we use. The ultimate result is happy, confident, discerning, involved contributors to the Jewish community and greater society.

The Jewish Day School of the Lehigh Valley provides an extraordinary education for students. We integrate general studies with Hebrew & Judaic studies. Students learn to think critically through a variety of lenses and learning experiences. JDS students acquire the knowledge, confidence and skills to move successfully on to new schools, to be thought leaders, and to contribute to their communities.

Respect, responsibility, effort, and kindness are the principles that guide our day-to-day lives at the JDS.  Our students are kind, compassionate, and thoughtful individuals who are being primed to contribute to shaping the Jewish community of the 21st century, putting the values learned in their studies into practice in and out of school.

We celebrate our Judaism and Israel in many ways throughout the year.

The chagim (holidays) also become central to many of our traditions. From Rosh HaShanah through Shavuot, we celebrate in school and with family programs.

All these wonderful experiences create lasting memories for students and their families.
